This is part 3 of our series on cosmetic myths! Today, let’s tackle the biggest myths for your skincare routine!
MYTH #1: To be effective, I need to have a 10-step skincare routine.
Truth: For some people, they get by with doing a lot. But for the majority of my patients, less is more. I recommend keeping it simple. The simpler the routine, the more compliant you’ll be.
A simple routine will maybe even do better things on the skin. If you’re doing too much, you could be stripping your barrier off. Ultimately, causing more problems then it’s worth.
When talking to our patients, we recommend The Core Four: cleansing the face (morning and night), Vitamin C & SPF (morning), and a Retinoid Acid (night). These are the basic four products that you should be using.
It’s very simple routine, everyone can do it. And, almost everyone can tolerate it with the products that we have here at Divine. If you’re overwhelmed expecting to purchase and use a million products, come see us for a consultation. We’ll start you on The Core Four! You’ll see changes quickly and you’ll be very pleased with how much just four products will transform your skin!
MYTH #2: Anti-aging isn’t for me yet.
Truth: If you’re young—in your 20s—you may be thinking, “Oh, I don’t need to worry about that yet.” That is simply not true. The truth is our skin begins losing collagen at the age of 20. We want to get on top of things very, very early. Taking initiative on anti-aging early is going to help you prevent problems down the road.
If you’re in your 20s, come in for a consultation! Our first goal is to always stimulate collagen as soon as we start losing it. We’ll put you on a simple regimen and in 10 years, you’re going to thank me.
MYTH #3: Sleeping in my makeup is not going to hurt me.
Truth: This one makes me cringe! It is so terrible for you to not be washing your makeup off at night. There is so many things going on at night: you’re making new cells called cellular turnover and your body goes into repair mode. It’s a regenerative process. Basically, your body is busy at night doing new things to help you! A layer of makeup that’s been on all day, blocking that process and blocking the pores is causing all kinds of issues.
Even if you don’t wear makeup, for example, my guy patients sometimes tell me they don’t need to wash their faces at night. Here’s the truth: you have been faced all day with pollutants and things in the environment that is laying on the skin! You need to get that off so your body can go to work at night and do some really great things. So, bottom line is not washing your face causes premature aging, especially if you’re leaving makeup on.
If you have any questions or want to get on a very simple routine that’s going to help you give us a call. We’re happy to help and we’re here for you!
